Apollo Art Auctions’ Fine Ancient Art and Antiquities Auction will feature an array of meticulously authenticated and well-provenanced artifacts from regions as diverse as China, Egypt, Classical Europe and the Near East. Auction highlights include Lot 1, a Chalandriani-type Cycladic idol. With an estimate of between £60,000 and £100,000, the delicately crafted marble figurine has a yellow-orange patina and comes accompanied by a professional historical report from Ancient Report Specialists.
Estimated at between £3,000 and £6,000, Lot 6 is a gilded Egyptian sarcophagus mask carved from cedar wood and inlaid with obsidian and marble. This unique piece, which dates back to between 1550 and 1069 BC, comes with a historical report by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum in Florence, Italy.
Lot 20 is an Attic black-figure neck amphora dating back to around 530-510 BC. It depicts a festival scene featuring Dionysos, God of Wine, accompanied by two centaurs. With an estimate of between £45,000 and £90,000, this rare TL-tested vessel is of exceptional quality and has been attributed to the renowned Antimenes Painters.
With an estimate of £7,500 to £14,000, Lot 62 is a Ptolemaic gold-covered copper arm bracelet, consisting of a tapered tail and opposing snake’s head featuring a single remaining blue glass or sapphire inset eye.
Lot 73 is a Hellenistic sapphire intaglio of Athena set in a heavy gold rink. Estimated at £4,000 to £6,000, this captivating piece depicts the revered Greek Goddess of Wisdom and War.
