According to the findings of
Holy Land Man, the ancient Jewish Rabbis were fond of saying:
“God had not formed woman out of the head, lest she should become proud; nor out of the eye, lest she should lust; nor out of the ear, lest she should be curious; nor out of the heart, lest she should be jealous; nor out of the hand, lest she should be covetous; nor out of the foot, lest she be a busybody; but out of the rib, which was always covered.” (Edersheim 1957, 146).
Historical View of Women’s Role
To appreciate the role of New Testament womanhood,
Minister Don Karl Juravin thinks that we must first contrast the plight of ancient women from a general perspective:
- In ancient Greece, women were considered inferior to men. Women were viewed as subjects and freemen. Women had lives of seclusion and practicaly slavery.
- Ancient Rome women were blessed with great freedom, but with lesser morality and undisciplined. Wives during that time were second-class people because women were viewed as a man’s mistress rather than actually a wife.
- Jewish opinion of womanhood at the time of Jesus was women is always kept in low profile. They are prohibited from working or in any way whatever their husband does. Kept in permanent submission. Such norms came from heathen influences.
Holy Land Man believes that during those times, women were legally inferior under the law of Moses, and to rebel against, or show disrespect to the law, is a serious offense that is punishable by death.
From the very beginning, women fulfilled a vital role in the Christian church, but
not one of leadership because of the following reasons:
- Apostle Paul never gave authority over to any female who tried to lead:
“I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.” (1 Timothy 2:12)
- The apostles were all men:
“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” John 13:35
- The chief missionary activity was done by men:
“but Paul did not think it wise to take him, because he had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in the work.” (Acts 15:38)
- Most of the writings in the Bible was the work of men:
“I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand, which is the distinguishing mark in all my letters. This is how I write.” (2 Thessalonians 3:17)
Regardless of such inferior in positions,
Apostle Paul still has high respect of women and even worked side by side with them:
“I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon of the church in Cenchreae. I ask you to receive her in the Lord in a way worthy of his people and to give her any help she may need from you, for she has been the benefactor of many people, including me.” (Romans 16:1-2)
“And I entreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellow labourers, whose names are in the book of life.” (Philippians. 4:3)
Although there’s equality between men and women both in gender and spirituality,
women are still viewed to be excluded from leadership over men in the church.
Part 3/8 How And Why GOD Created The Woman?
Note that all general claims and observations by Holy Land Man refer to the vast majority of 70-90% and never to the 100% and so the assertion that "women are…" never refers to 100% but to 70-90%.
